We at ParentAssess were privileged to work alongside Gabbie Cox, who very sadly died in 2024. It was an honour to know her.
Gabbie was a gifted communicator who was vibrant and had an infectious love of life. Her passing was a huge shock and a loss for all those who knew her.
Gabbie was an outstanding social worker, who held herself to the highest professional standards. She was committed to her profession and to constantly improving her practice. That commitment and dedication led her to be one of the first social workers to complete ParentAssess training. She became a ParentAssess trainer shortly after and led courses with us across the country. As we expanded, Gabbie also helped to develop ParentAssess, for example helping to design the very first version of our QA form, now commonly used across the country.
Gabbie spent a huge amount of her time as a social worker mentoring and helping less experienced social workers to improve their practice and to develop their confidence. She always made time to listen and support others. She loved working with families, and they appreciated her sensitive approach.
The team at ParentAssess want to ensure that Gabbie’s influence on social work continues and we thought carefully about something that would reflect Gabbie’s work.
The Gabbie Cox Memorial Bursary was set up in 2025 to honour Gabbie’s life and contribution to social work. We intend to sponsor two social care professionals each year to complete the ParentAssess Course free of charge. Applicants would be people who might struggle to access this training without this support. It might be someone who is returning to social work or someone who is recovering from ill health or coping with another challenge.
About the Bursary
The bursary is available to any social worker or social care practitioner who has not yet completed the ParentAssess training. The successful applicants will receive 1 free place on the Assessor’s Course, access to all the post course support ParentAssess provides, plus mentorship in the first year from an experienced Assessor – in the first year Sarah Lowe, our founder and creator, has offered to do this.
To apply, please complete the online application form. You can apply for yourself or enter a nomination on behalf of someone else.
